Following the dramatic collision between himself and Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton has been summoned before the stewards in Saudi Arabia.

Hamilton, like Verstappen, has been summoned for the incident, which saw the two crash as they approached the final corner down the back straight.

After getting within DRS range of Verstappen in order to make a move down the pit straight, the accident happened in the closing stages of the race.

Verstappen succeeded in keeping his nose in front of Hamilton into Turn 1 and maintain the lead, but he was urged to relinquish the lead and appeared to do so down the back straight, confusing his competitor. The Mercedes driver slowed behind the Red Bull, but the two clashed, causing damage to Hamilton’s front wing.

Verstappen then relinquished the lead to Hamilton down the back straight before regaining it at the last corner. Verstappen, though, was unable to keep off Hamilton as his aging Medium tyres gave way, and the seven-time World Champion cantered home, establishing the fastest lap in the process.

Hamilton was called for a “alleged breach of Article 2 (d) Chapter IV Appendix L of the FIA International Sporting Code,” according to the summons.

“Causing a collision, making severe mistakes, or demonstrating a lack of control over the car (such as leaving the track) will be reported to the stewards and may result in penalties up to and including disqualification of any driver,” according to the article.

At 23:40 local time, Hamilton will face the stewards.

Hamilton’s victory over Verstappen means the pair are level on points heading to the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
