Aprilia wants Andrea Dovizioso back on track the following weekend

Aprilia has long expressed a desire to sign Andrea Dovizioso as a full-time rider, but until that possibility is established, Noale’s managers are attempting to persuade Andrea Dovizioso to compete as a wildcard… an idea that gained momentum on Sunday.

Lorenzo Savadori crashed in the Red Bull Ring, broke his right malleolus, and will have surgery on Monday in the hopes of returning to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, which would leave him with only the Austrian Grand Prix next Sunday.

Aprilia sees this opportunity as excellent for putting the RS-GP in the hands of Dovizioso, a rider who has assisted the Italians in the development of the bike. Aprilia wants to see Dovizioso compete in Aprilia colors, similar to what happened this weekend with Dani Pedrosa at KTM, so he can provide valuable feedback on the machine’s behavior in a competitive environment, something he has never had the opportunity to do before because he only tested the RS-GP in a test context, not a race context.

The disappearance of Savadori opens a door that the Italians have been hesitant to open, yet the opportunity there, and it reflects an old ambition of the Italian manufacturing. Andrea Dovizioso will make that decision today.
