Fernando Alonso: Testing for one and a half days is ‘unfair’

The present pre-season testing schedule, which limits racers to just one and a half days of testing, has angered Fernando Alonso.

Alonso has criticized the present pre-season testing schedule, calling it “unfair” because racers are severely limited in how much racing they can do in before the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Starting this Wednesday and ending this Friday afternoon, pre-season testing will take place at the Bahrain International Circuit. Every racer will participate in testing for approximately 1.5 days.

Every team can only field one car per day, even if the test spans three days. A single driver is used at a time as a result of this. At a time when Formula One is attempting to give spectators more entertainment, Alonso doesn’t understand the logic behind this.

Alonso was baffled

Alonso addressed a select group of media, including RacingNews365, “We have very limited testing in Bahrain, which is, and by the way I can say now, I’ve been thinking about this all winter, how unfair is [it] that we have one day and a half to prepare a world championship.”

“There’s no other sport in the world…

“With all the money involved, and with all the marketing and the good things that we say about Formula 1, and being closer and closer to the fans, I cannot understand why we then go to Bahrain for four days, which could be two and two for [each of] the drivers.

“If you go to three, which is not even, which is an odd number, you cannot divide [fairly] between the drivers.

“And I don’t know why we don’t go with two cars.”
