Jacques Villeneuve, a former Formula One and Indy 500 winner, will comeback to the NASCAR Pinty’s Series this season.
On August 7, Villeneuve will race in the 52nd Trois-Rivières Grand Prix in Quebec, one of the marquee races of NASCAR’s Canadian stock car series.
He’ll be driving the No. 07 car, which was constructed by the Dumoulin Competition squad and is sponsored by Prolon Controls.
Villeneuve, 51, has four consecutive starts in the series, the most recent in 2014. His best result was third in 2013, also in Trois-Rivières.
“It is with great enthusiasm that I accepted the invitation from Martin D’Anjou of Festidrag Développement to participate in the GP3R,” Villeneuve said. “During my presence at the Daytona 500 last winter, I had the pleasure of meeting Martin who was a great help with the logistics.
“When he suggested that I ride under the colors of Festidrag Development and its partners, I was quick to accept. My last race in Trois-Rivières was a few years ago and I can’t wait to come back and meet the NASCAR and car racing fans.”
Villeneuve made his debut race in the Daytona 500 in February. He placed 22nd for Team Hezeberg, a new Cup Series squad formed by racing icon Toine Hezemans and Dutch billionaire Ernst Berg.
In NASCAR, Villeneuve has 5 Cup Series begins. He has also competed in races at Talladega, Alabama, Phoenix, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (the oval), and Sonoma, California.
Previous season, Villeneuve earned his first NASCAR European race. In addition to his profession as an F1 commentator for Sky Sport in Italy and Canal+ in France, he had participated in the series since 2019.
Villeneuve raced in Formula One from 1996 until 2006 (166 starts), winning 11 races, notably 4 in his rookie season, all with Williams-Renault. In 1995, he also earned the Indianapolis 500 and the CART title.
