To stop visor “tear-offs” from unintentionally influencing the results of upcoming F1 races, Charles Leclerc has asked for intervention.

In Charles Leclerc’s opinion, more must be done to stop visor “tear-offs” from influencing the results of Grands Prix.

The overheating brake problem that plagued Leclerc in the first few circuits of the race prevented him from winning the Belgian Grand Prix, forcing the Ferrari racer to make an early first pit stop.

The item blocking the brake duct was identified as a visor tear-off, one of many transparent plastic covers that racers are allowed to remove from their helmet visors if visibility is compromised, and this was verified during the race.

After the competition, it became apparent that Max Verstappen, who was leading the championship and was racing one position in front of Leclerc at the time of the event, was most likely the cause of the tear-off.

In an interview ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, Leclerc denied to directly blame the Red Bull racer for the problem.

“In all fairness, you cannot calculate that,” Leclerc told media, including RacingNews365.com.

“I’m not angry at all with Max, it is obviously not the fault of the drivers.

“In this particular situation, I think somebody was losing oil or something and I could not see anything through my visor, all the drivers in front of me couldn’t see anything through their visors.

“The first opportunity we had to remove a tear-off was on the straight, so I find myself with tear-offs flying all over the place and in that circumstance you cannot do much as a driver.”

Leclerc requests a fix for the tear-off problem

A strategy modification was necessary as a result of Leclerc’s overheating brake problem, which put the Monegasque racer at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

He and Verstappen began the Belgian Grand Prix near the rear of the grid as a result of grid penalties.

Although he wasn’t going to move through the field as quickly as last race winner Verstappen, the problem significantly decreased his chances of placing on the podium.

Prior to a failed effort to pit for soft tyres and go for the fastest lap, Leclerc was in fifth place. However, after receiving a time penalty for pit lane speeding, the Ferrari driver fell to sixth place.

Leclerc persisted in calling for more restrictions on tear-offs and proposed that they be kept in the cars—a technique that had previously been tried but stopped.

“I think maybe moving forward it will be good that we maybe find a solution,” added Leclerc.

“We might look at something to find a way to keep the tear-off somewhere in the car.

“I guess there were reasons why this rule was dropped, but I’m not aware of these reasons. Maybe there are also other solutions.”
