Sebastian Vettel: I got drunk the day before my FIA hearing!

Sebastian Vettel has revealed that he was drunk the day before his 2017 FIA hearing for collision with Lewis Hamilton in Azerbaijan.

Sebastian Vettel has confessed that he drank the night before his FIA hearing in Paris for his collision with Lewis Hamilton at the 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Vettel, then driving for Ferrari, was annoyed by Hamilton slowing down at the apex of a curve while under the Safety Car, and pulled alongside him before veering to the right to collide with the Mercedes.

It was one of the season’s most contentious moments, with Vettel brought before the FIA in Paris. After a lengthy hearing and a public apology from Vettel, the four-time World Champion was spared any further punishment beyond the three penalty points imposed by the stewards for the incident.

Vettel admitted last week that he drank the evening before the hearing because he planned to celebrate his 30th birthday, that occurred on the day he faced the inquiry.

“[My] 30th, because I had lots of friends there,” Vettel replied, when asked by Mick Schumacher about his best birthday in a special video. “We had a good party. I don’t celebrate my birthday normally, but 30, I thought, ‘Special occasion’.

“I got in a really good mood, if you see what I mean. And the next day I had the hearing at the FIA in Paris, because of the Baku incident. You know, when I drove into Lewis, because I was angry that he stopped, blah blah blah…”

Vettel also said that people had confused him for former colleague Daniel Ricciardo, as well as being ‘starstruck’ by his wife and Mick’s father, Michael Schumacher.
