Following a violation of the FIA International Sporting Code at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was fined.
After a post-race rules violation involving his safety belts, Lewis Hamilton avoided a severe penalty at the Brazilian Grand Prix, escaping with a €5,000 punishment.
The race winner came to a halt on the circuit to pick up a Brazilian flag from a steward, removing his safety belts in the process, in violation of the FIA’s International Sporting Code’s Appendix L Chapter III Article 4.
The specific article reads: “Drivers must be properly restrained in their seat by safety belts in conformity with the Technical Regulations for the vehicle concerned, at all times during a competition when it is mobile on a circuit, pit lane, special stage or competition course.”
For his actions, Hamilton was fined €5,000, with an additional €20,000 suspended until the end of 2022.
With three races remaining in 2021, Hamilton’s victory at Interlagos reduced title opponent Max Verstappen’s lead from 21 to 14 points.
