Steve Lauletta, president of 23XI Racing, revealed Tuesday night on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that the team has secured a second charter.
Kurt Busch’s No. 45 car will receive the charter. Bubba Wallace will be his teammate.
The charter deal was finalized Tuesday, according to Lauletta on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s “Late Shift.” Earlier in the day, the team announced a slew of new hires on the competition side. Busch’s crew chief, Billy Scott, will join the team.
“Both of our cars will have charters for next season and beyond,” Lauletta told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Lauletta said the charter comes from StarCom Racing in a deal that includes Spire Motorsports.
“It’s an interesting process in terms of trying to make sure everything is aligned, both from our desire to get the right package in terms of what goes into purchasing the charter, and then for the seller to get the right package on their end ” he said.
“We were lucky enough to work with StarCom. They also have some things going with Spire with equipment and other pieces. So, the three of us kind of got together, and we now have the charter we need on the 45.”
Before the completion of the season, StarCom Racing revealed that it had sold its charter. In that announcement, the team also said “goodbye” to its fans.
This is one of the few charters that will change sides for the 2022 season. Spire Motorsports has given Kaulig Racing two charters. Chip Ganassi Racing was purchased by Trackhouse Racing, which also included Ganassi’s two charters. GMS Racing is also expected to secure a charter for Ty Dillon’s car for the upcoming season.
