This season, JR Motorsports will add three Hendrick Motorsports Cup racers to the lineup of its sixth NASCAR Xfinity Series squad.
JRM confirmed on Tuesday that it will enter a 5th car, the No. 88 Chevrolet, in five more Xfinity races this season.
Latest HMS Cup racers William Byron, Chase Elliott, and Kyle Larson will team up to start the race, thanks to support from HendrickCars.com.
The No. 88 will be driven by Elliott, the 2020 Cup Series winner, in the race on May 7 at Darlington, S.C.; Byron will race the No. 88 on May 21 at Texas Motor Speedway and July 16 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Larson, the defending Cup Series winner, will drive the No. 88 at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International on August 20 and Darlington on September 3.
JRM had intended to enter the No. 88 in 4 races of the season. The squad has one top-10 result in two races thus far, with Miguel Paludo at Circuit of the Americas.
The No. 88 squad’s crew chief will be disclosed at a later date.
NXS cars are nothing new to them
During their professional eras, Elliott and Byron have both earned Xfinity Series titles while racing for JRM — Elliott in 2014 and Byron in 2017.
Elliott had five Xfinity Series victories in 82 total appearances, including one at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course previous season with JRM. Byron has four victories in 33 starts, all of which have come this year.
Larson has 12 Xfinity victories in 108 races, with his latest victory coming with Chip Ganassi Racing in the 2018 season.
