Kyle Larson dominated the only practise session at Charlotte Motor Speedway ahead of the Coca-Cola 600 on Saturday; however it won’t help him much.

Larson slammed the barrier in Turn 2 earlier in the Group A practise session, seriously damaging his No. 5 Chevrolet. He achieved an average pace of 182.500 mph shortly after taking the racetrack.

While his Hendrick Motorsports team intended to repair the car, he would be unable to compete in qualifying on Saturday evening and would begin near the back of the pack in the race on Sunday.

Consequently, Alex Bowman came in second (182.204 mph), and Ross Chastain came in third (181.799 mph). Martin Truex Jr. finished fifth, with Austin Cindric fourth.

Truex had the best average pace amongst some of the racers who finished ten consecutive laps during practise (178.188 mph). Ryan Blaney and Christopher Bell came in second and third place, respectively, in that category.

Group B

Cindric was the quickest in the second 20-minute session, averaging 181.787 mph on his circuits.

Kyle Busch finished third (181.634 mph) and Truex finished second (181.634 mph) (181.494 mph). Blaney and Daniel Suarez completed out the top five.

Ryan Preece went off Turn 4 with less than 10 minutes left in the session, bringing out a caution, but his No. 15 Ford appeared to be unharmed.

The hood of Kaz Grala’s No. 50 started appearing over the windscreen only minutes before the practise concluded, causing him to drop to the apron and back to pit road. Fortunately, he hadn’t yet reached top pace on the racetrack.

Group A

Larson was indeed the quickest in the opening twenty minutes of practise, which won’t help him with his starting spot in Sunday’s race.

Larson slammed the barrier with around 12 minutes left after posting an aggregate track pace of 182.500 mph, which put him in first place for the session.

Larson brought practise to a stop by tagging the wall near Turn 2. He stated over the radio, “I hit it fairly good.” Larson’s squad has elected to fix his No. 5 Chevrolet and will skip qualifying on Saturday night, assuring that he will begin near the rear of the field in Sunday’s race.

Bowman came in second (182.204 mph), while Chastain came in third (182.204 mph) (181.799 mph). The top five were completed by Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano.

Corey LaJoie crashed about 8 minutes into the workout, prompting a caution. He stated, “The left-rear (tyre) is done.” “I can assure you that it hurt a lot more than it appeared on TV.”

LaJoie’s Spire Motorsports squad will switch to a backup car, and he will begin Sunday’s race from the back.
