Due to a skiing accident-related leg injury, NASCAR Cup Series racer Chase Elliott will not participate in Sunday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Hendrick Motorsports released an announcement that Elliott, 27, hurt his left leg while skiing in Colorado. On Friday night, he is set to have operation.
Josh Berry, a 32-year-old veteran of the Xfinity Series, will take Elliott’s place in HMS’ No. 9 Chevy on Sunday in Las Vegas.
Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick declared, “Chase’s health is our primary concern. “He’s spoken with several members of our team and is understandably disappointed to miss time in the car.
“Of course, he has our full support, and we’ll provide any resources he needs. We hope to share another update later this weekend.”
Berry has competed in two Cup Series races before and is a five-time Xfinity Series championship winner. His best performance was 26th at Michigan in the 2021 season while driving for Spire Motorsports.
After entering the Cup Series full-time in 2016, Elliott won’t be competing in Sunday’s race. Elliott has 18 victories in 259 career starts, and he won the 2020 series championship.
Elliott’s recovery period’s duration is yet uncertain.
