Adam Fitzgerald, an Irish FRECA racer, broke his spine in an accident at Imola using sausage kerbs.

This weekend, the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix will host the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, which Fitzgerald will be competing in for the first time.

He placed 22nd in the first round but crashed badly after flying over the sausage kerbs at Turn 1.

A team representative has revealed that he sustained three vertebral fractures but fortunately escaped spinal cord damage.

His Racing Performance Motorsport squad expressed their displeasure with the installation of the sausage kerbs, which were also responsible for the launch of F3 driver Alex Peroni at Monza in 2019.
