Commemorations for Craig Breen have poured in since he passed away in a testing crash before this weekend’s Croatia Rally.
Irish racing driver Craig Breen, who went tragically on April 13 after getting into trouble during a test session before to the 2023 WRC Croatia Rally, has received tributes from all parts of the motorsport world.
On the highway between Stari Golubovec and Lobor, Breen was gravely injured after his Hyundai i20 N Sport hit a pole.
James Fulton, the co-driver, escaped the collision uninjured.
Breen was previously a driver for Hyundai, and he had returned to the squad in the beginning of 2023, sharing the driving responsibilities with Dani Sordo. The Irishman tied his best-ever WRC performance when he placed 2nd at the Rally Sweden earlier this year.
Thousands of people from Ireland and overseas attended Breen’s hometown of Waterford’s memorial service on Tuesday.
Hyundai made the decision to remain in the Croatia Rally and compete with cars sporting a special livery copying the Irish tricolor in Breen’s honor (see below).
Valtteri Bottas and Esteban Ocon, F1 racers, paid tributes to Breen on Twitter in addition to those from Hyundai and the WRC.
