Verstappen has recently expressed his displeasure with the direction of Formula 1.
Damon Hill, the previous Formula 1 World Champion, thinks Max Verstappen might get tired of the motorsport.
The Dutch driver has been dominant the latest season, winning 10 of the 12 races that have been held thus far to go ahead of Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez by 125 points as the season’s second half begins.
Verstappen has expressed his worries about the motorsport’s future, notably with the introduction of additional races to the schedule and the ongoing changes to the Sprint format, despite his recent success.
“I”I think there’s a slim chance he could get bored because listening to some of his comments about Formula 1, he seems quite negative about having to do any extra work, or the amount of flying and stuff he has to do,” 1996 World Champion Hill stated on the Sky Sports F1 podcast.
“So you never know. He might just go ‘I can’t be bothered with this anymore’ and go off and play computer games in Monaco.
“But that’s a very, very slim chance of that happening. There’s nothing to stop him, is there, really?”
Verstappen, according to Hill, will want to come back
Verstappen may leave the sport when his current contract expires in 2028, but Hill has predicted he’ll probably try to make a comeback, much like Fernando Alonso or Daniel Ricciardo, a former colleague.
“We’re talking [about a] very early burnout,” Hill said.
“You look at Fernando, who’s had an incredibly long career, he had a bit of time out.
“You do wonder whether sometimes these drivers need a reset year where they kind of go ‘Okay, I want to do all these other things I don’t have time for when I’m a Formula 1 driver’.
“Ok, go and do it and then you’ll realise that actually, you really are much more interested in winning Grands Prix and being in F1.
“The guys who have come back have really kind of, I think they’ve hit the ground with more enthusiasm than they had before they were there before they were doing it.”
