In an effort to avoid Oscar Piastri’s McLaren, the Australian crashed at the start of his second practice session.
After colliding during the second practice session for the Dutch Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo was taken to a medical facility for precautionary examinations on his hand as well as his wrist.
As an inexperienced driver spun at Turn 3, the Australian locked up to prevent a collision with Oscar Piastri’s already broken McLaren. The AlphaTauri car suffered serious damage and had to be retired from the practice.
Ricciardo was still holding on to the steering wheel after the crash, and his squad’s radio communication in the aftermath showed he was in pain: “F**k, my hand.”
Onboard video revealed Riccardo’s unwillingness to forcefully remove his left hand when leaving the vehicle.
It was reported to RacingNews365 that after an initial checkup at the Zandvoort Circuit Medical Centre, Ricciardo had gone to the hospital for additional testing.
Red Bull youngster Liam Lawson is in attendance this weekend and would probably get the call-up for the race if an injury prevented Daniel Ricciardo from competing, however ousted Nyck de Vries is also a possibility for a surprise comeback.
