Lewis Hamilton: It’s not my job to worry about Mercedes engine issues

Lewis Hamilton has dismissed reports of engine issues at Mercedes, claiming that he isn’t devoting “any energy” to the matter.

During the final races of the season, Lewis Hamilton is unconcerned with engine problems at Mercedes, noting that “it’s not my job to worry about that stuff.”

After receiving a grid penalty for switching engines at the Turkish Grand Prix, Hamilton lost the World Championship lead to Red Bull rival Max Verstappen, despite recovering from 11th to fifth.

With six races remaining, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff refused to rule out the possibility that Hamilton may require a fifth engine to finish the season.

It comes after reports that Mercedes had sent its entire stock of current power units to Brixworth for extensive testing, with claims that Valtteri Bottas has even lost a new engine from his pool.

When asked if he is concerned about Mercedes’ engine problems and the possibility of having to change engines before the conclusion of the season, Hamilton said he’s not.

“I don’t really give any energy to it,” Hamilton said.

“It’s not my job to worry about that stuff, so I let the guys focus on that, worry about it.

“My engine is in good condition. My first engine, I think, did six races. We still have engine two, and I think engine three is still there.

“As far as I’m aware, hopefully I don’t have to [use a fifth engine], but I can’t predict what’s up ahead.”

Hamilton is currently six points behind Verstappen in the standings, with the Dutchman finishing second behind Bottas at Istanbul Park.
