Jan Lammers, who called Lewis Hamilton a “stupid idiot” and gave him the finger, claims that Max Verstappen and his title opponent don’t make things easy for each other.
Taking to the Circuit of the Americas for FP2 last Friday, the title contenders continued their feud.
Both drivers started a flying lap at the same time and raced wheel-to-wheel towards Turn 1, with Verstappen expressing his displeasure at Hamilton’s antics.
The Dutchman called the seven-time World Champion a “stupid idiot” while flipping him the bird.
He later added: “I don’t know, we are all lining up to go for our laps so I don’t really understand what happened there.”
Christian Horner, the Red Bull team boss, believes Hamilton jumped the queue, while Helmut Marko called it all “unnecessary.”
“That those two won’t have dinner together more often, we know that anyway,” he said, “but I think it’s unnecessary.”
The Dutch Grand Prix’s organiser, Jan Lammers, believes it was a matter of both wanting things their way and having the session’s goals and ambitions.
“They were just in each other’s way,” he said.
“Just when Max wanted to roll out his plans and build a fast lap, Hamilton was in the way.
“So they were both in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
He added: “Your performance and self confidence are obviously in your preparation.
“At this moment Max had it all in his head how he wanted to do and then suddenly Hamilton came driving next to him.
“Call it coincidence, but of course, they don’t do things to make it easy for each other.
“That’s part of it.”
While the antics of last Friday did not result in a collision, Formula One would not be surprised if it did now.
In the early part of the season, Verstappen and Hamilton traded paint and a few parts and bits from their cars before colliding at the British Grand Prix, when Verstappen retired after his most serious crash.
Both cars ended up in the gravel with Verstappen’s RB16B partly on top of Hamilton’s W12 at the Italian Grand Prix.
The two have kept things clean for the most part as they fight for the World Championship, with Verstappen leading Hamilton by 12 points with five races remaining.
