At the season finale, another racer will make his FP1 start.
Franz Tost, the AlphaTauri Team Principal, has stated that Red Bull rookie Isack Hadjar will participate in his first free practice later this year.
According to the rules of motorsport, each Formula 1 squad must give two FP1 sessions to rookie racers each season. A rookie is an individual who has participated in no more than two Grands Prix.
It has previously complied with the requirement because AlphaTauri started the season with Nyck de Vries before parting company with him halfway through the season.
Tost announced the selection during the pre-Dutch Grand Prix FIA press conference. Nevertheless, the squad has chosen to give Hadjar – who has been racing in his rookie season in F2 with Hitech – an F1 shot in Abu Dhabi.
The French driver has won one podium this year, at the Red Bull Ring Sprint Race, and is now ranked 15th in the F2 standings.
Hadjar entered the Red Bull Junior Team the previous year, and before losing the FIA Formula 3 championship in the season’s last race at Monza, he was a strong contender.
Hadjar is one of five Red Bull junior racers participating in the present F2 season. Red Bull has a sizable pool of young racers.
Yas Marina was a well-liked location for teams to fulfill their rookie run responsibilities because of the post-season test that followed the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and this year is expected to be no different.
