Chase Elliott will co-own SRX Nashville with his father, Bill Elliott

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — Bill and Chase Elliott will compete on the race circuit together for the second time, following a late model race in 2013.

Chase, the reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion, has revealed that he will compete against his father, Bill, the 1998 NASCAR Winston Cup Series winner, in the inaugural season finale of the Superstar Racing Experience on Saturday, July 17 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.

“See you on the track, old man,” Elliott tweeted, tagging both the SRX and his father’s Twitter accounts beside a “Battle of the Elliotts” image for the race, which will be broadcast live on CBS at 8 p.m.

Chase will be the series’ first active Cup driver, competing with retired Cup champions such as series organizer Tony Stewart and Bobby Labonte. Other series regulars came from the ranks of IndyCar vets and veterans, as well as dirt, sports cars, and other disciplines. Each week, two automobiles are set aside for “ringers” and “local heroes,” and Chase will drive one of them.

Elliott also posted a poll on Twitter asking people to predict which car number he will use. The options included No. 9, which his father made famous in NASCAR and which Chase currently drives in Cup; No. 94, which Bill used in Cup and which Chase wore in the NASCAR Truck Series; No. 24, Chase’s original Cup number after taking over for the retired Jeff Gordon; and No. 99, which doubled up on his Cup number. The poll was won by No. 94, who received 35.6 percent of the vote.

Bill has struggled as an SRX regular, placing last in three of four races and 11th in the other as mechanical issues, collisions, and a hand injury all taken their toll on the 65-year-old driver.

Chase is presently sixth in the Cup standings and has two wins, including the most recent leg of the series last Sunday at Road America.

SRX is competing at Slinger Speedway in Wisconsin for the sixth week in a row before moving on to Stafford Speedway in Connecticut, Knoxville Raceway in Iowa, Eldora Speedway in Ohio, and Lucas Oil Raceway in Indiana before concluding in Tennessee.

Chase will compete in the NASCAR Cup race the next day at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
