With the opening qualifying session from Zandvoort finishing at the top of the timesheets, Max Verstappen has gotten off to a strong start for his home grand prix weekend.
With a best lap time of 1:11.852, the Dutchman was nearly three tenths faster than Fernando Alonso, who finished in second.
One red flag was raised during the practice, sending Nico Hulkenberg of Haas spinning into the gravel. Hulkenberg will still be a member of the squad in 2024.
Third place went to Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, and fourth place went to Sergio Perez’s second Red Bull.
Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant finished FP1 for Williams in fifth and eighth place, respectively, as the team had a great start to the weekend.
Lando Norris and his teammate Oscar Piastri finished sixth and eighth for McLaren, which hopes to carry over its success from the first half of the season into the second.
Rounding out the top 10 were Yuki Tsunoda and Esteban Ocon.
