Hamilton: I knew Verstappen wasn’t going to get a penalty

Lewis Hamilton didn’t let the stewards’ decision not to investigate Max Verstappen’s defensive driving deter him on his way to victory in Brazil.

Lewis Hamilton claims he knew the stewards would not penalize Max Verstappen for their Turn 4 incident in the final stages of the Brazilian Grand Prix.

On Lap 48 of 71, with Mercedes driver Hamilton closing in on his Red Bull rival, he made a lunge around the outside of Turn 4 for the race lead. Verstappen’s strong defense, on the other hand, forced Hamilton wide, and both cars ended up in the run-off.

Although the stewards took note of the incident, they later decided it was not worthy of an investigation, which surprised Hamilton.

“When they said they were going to investigate, I just knew the decision they were going to come to, whether it was right or wrong,” said Hamilton.

“I didn’t let it faze me, I just kept racing.”

“I got the result I needed”

When asked if he thought the stewards’ decision was correct, Hamilton said he needed to go back and review the incident.

Hamilton added: “I’m not gonna go into that. I need to look back at it, but I mean, it’s a racing incident at the end of the day, probably.

“It doesn’t really matter, as I got the result I needed.”
