Helmut Marko: Mercedes claims Verstappen caused Hamilton’s wing to be damaged

Mercedes is now claiming that Max Verstappen damaged Lewis Hamilton’s rear wing in parc ferme conditions, according to Helmut Marko.

According to Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko, Mercedes claims that Max Verstappen damaged Lewis Hamilton’s rear wing under parc ferme conditions following qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Following Friday’s qualifying session at Interlagos, Hamilton was reported to the stewards for a possible Drag Reduction System (DRS) infringement, with the hearing being postponed until Saturday.

Meanwhile, after fan footage appeared to show Verstappen touching the rear wing of Hamilton’s car after qualifying, he was summoned to the stewards for an alleged breach of the FIA International Sporting Code relating to parc ferme conditions.

Mercedes’ “unbelievable” claim

While the F1 world waits for a decision on both drivers, Marko believes Mercedes has turned the tables on Red Bull and Verstappen.

“The unbelievable thing is that Mercedes are now claiming that Max damaged Hamilton’s rear wing with his fingers,” Marko said.

Despite the fact that each case appeared to be separate at first, there has been speculation that Mercedes may use Verstappen’s actions as evidence in their hearing about Hamilton’s rear wing.

Could Verstappen really have caused damage?

Former Formula One driver turned pundit Karun Chandhok, on the other hand, dismissed any claims that Verstappen had caused any damage.

“For those asking if Max could have manipulated the wing, let’s all be clear that the wings are designed to sustain hundreds of kilos of load without breaking,” wrote Chandhok on Twitter.

“Andre the giant could sit on it! As fit and strong as Max is, I doubt he managed to bend the wing…”
