Hendrick Motorsports has extended its contract with William Byron, the only racer to emerge victorious various races in the NASCAR Cup Series this season.
The new contract, which was revealed on Thursday but signed on Monday, would maintain Byron as the No. 24 Chevrolet racer for the team until 2025. His existing contract with HMS expired at the end of the current season.
“I’m so thankful to continue racing for Mr. (Rick) Hendrick, Jeff (Gordon, vice chairman) and Hendrick Motorsports,” Byron said. “Since I joined the organization, they’ve supported my growth process every step of the way, including my path to the Cup Series.
“With the great people around me, I’m excited to continue pursuing race wins and playoff success. Together we’ve built a No. 24 team that I know will contend for championships.
“I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season and my years to come with Hendrick Motorsports.”
Byron is ranked third in the Cup rankings after 11 events this year, with two triphums — one of just two racers with many convincing wins in 2022. He has already collected 16 NASCAR national series races at the age of 24, featuring four in Cup, four in Xfinity, and eight in Trucks.
The 2017 Xfinity Series winner will make his 3rd straight Cup Series playoff berth in 2021.
“William is a tremendous driver and a truly exceptional young man,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “As impressed as I am by his innate ability inside a race car, I admire his character and maturity even more.
“William is on an amazing trajectory, and I believe he’s only just begun to scratch the surface of his potential. We are fortunate to have him in our stable,” ” Byron joined HMS for the first time in August 2016, when he was 18 years old. Following winning four Xfinity Series races in 2017, he swiftly ascended to the Cup level, where he was named rookie of the year in 2018. Byron seems to be the only Cup Series racer other than four-time title holder Jeff Gordon to triumph in the famed No. 24 for Hendrick Motorsports.
Byron’s key sponsors continue to include Axalta Coating Systems, RAPTOR, Valvoline, and Liberty University, where he is completing an undergraduate degree in strategic digital communication.
