Marko sets a high target for Verstappen and Perez at the Mexican Grand Prix

Helmut Marko of Red Bull is optimistic about the team’s chances at the Mexican Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are aiming for a 1-2 result in the Mexican Grand Prix, according to Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko.

Both drivers come to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez after a good performance in the United States, with Verstappen claiming victory and extending his championship lead, and Perez securing a solid third place, building on a previous podium finish at the Turkish Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, because to the effect of the high altitude on Red Bull’s power units, the team is considered the favourites over Mercedes at this circuit, therefore Marko is optimistic and feels Verstappen can maintain his advantage in the final race.

“We have a smaller turbo than Mercedes have (even though their turbo is smaller than in the past), and thanks to the thin air that should give us an advantage,” Marko said.

“In Mexico the aim is to be one and two.”

Perez’s improved form has certainly impressed Marko recently, with the team advisor stating: “Sergio is progressing fast. From Monza he could have finished on the podium every race.”

Red Bull package looking strong

Meanwhile, because to the effect of the high altitude on Red Bull’s power units, the team is considered the favourites over Mercedes at this circuit, therefore Marko is optimistic and feels Verstappen can maintain his advantage in the final race.

“We are so close together that it is difficult to say which circuit suits which car better,” the Austrian explained.

“In Mexico and Brazil, however, the altitude plays a role. In America, our package showed its strength because we managed to find the right setting, unlike the races at Sochi and Istanbul.

“It is always necessary to find the right way to keep the tyres at the right temperature.”

Verstappen led the Drivers’ standings by 12 points heading into the weekend, while Red Bull is currently 23 points behind Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship.
