Mercedes has been granted permission to change their rear wing ahead of second practice by the race stewards at Interlagos.
Mercedes has been granted permission to replace its rear wing assembly for the second practice session in Brazil, since the legality of the rear wing they used on Friday is still being investigated.
The stewards have the rear wing Hamilton used in qualifying impounded as they investigate whether it conforms with the Technical Regulations.
With the second practice session coming and no decision on the rear wing yet made, Mercedes has been granted permission to use a different rear wing in FP2 in order to get out on track.
Because the cars are in parc ferme, Mercedes needed special permission from the stewards to run a modified rear wing specification – the team confirmed this change in a statement.
“We have been given written permission to replace it, as per the regulations,” a spokesperson said.
Hamilton will be able to go out on track for the second practice session, where the teams are not allowed to make any setup changes due to the Sprint Qualifying format’s rules.
