Ten staff members from two main series and three separate teams were suspended by NASCAR on Tuesday.
Loose tires were a trouble once again at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway last weekend, in both the Cup and Xfinity series races.
Both the No. 11 Toyota of Denny Hamlin and the No. 16 Chevrolet of A.J. Allmendinger lost wheels after pit stops during Monday’s postponed race because of heavy at Dover.
Crew chief Chris Gabehart, as well as Derrell Edwards and Blake Houston from Hamlin’s squad, have been disqualified for the upcoming 4 races (through the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte).
Matt Swiderski, crew chief, and members of the crew Keiston France and Jonathan Willard from Allmendinger’s Kaulig Racing squad have all been disqualified for the upcoming four races.
Eight separate squads have been suspended by NASCAR thus far this season for loosing wheels during Cup races.
Previous Saturday’s Xfinity race saw Sam Mayer’s No. 1 Chevrolet lose a wheel on the track.
Taylor Moyer, Orane Ossowski, and Markus Pierce-Brewster, all of the JR Motorsports crew, have been disqualified for the upcoming 4 Xfinity Series events.
Jason Houghtaling, who was the crew chief for Xfinity Series driver Jesse Iwuji for the first 8 races of the 2022 season, has been suspended indefinitely by NASCAR.
Houghtaling was eliminated under Section 4.4.e of the rule book, which states that a participant may face disciplinary action if he or she makes a “Statement and/or communication made public (including social media platforms) that demeans, criticizes, ridicules, or otherwise disparages another person based upon that person’s race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, or handicapping condition.”
Houghtaling has parted ways with Jesse Iwuji Motorsports.
