Perez shares his “ideal” Formula One future scenario

Following his difficulties in the previous season, Sergio Perez’s Formula 1 future is expected to be a hot topic this year.

According to Sergio Perez, staying with Red Bull for a few more years in Formula 1 is his “ideal” scenario moving forward.

At the end of this season, the Mexican’s contract with the Milton Keynes-based team ends, and his future with the team has come under question.

Teammate Max Verstappen had an extremely successful year last year, winning 19 of the 22 races held on his way to his third Formula One championship, while Perez struggled at the wheel of Red Bull’s RB19.

Perez’s recent bad performance raised concerns about whether he and Red Bull would continue to work together in the near future.

Rumors that the partnership would end before the 2024 season began were denied by both sides.

Perez is now concentrating on keeping up his motivation at Red Bull after the forthcoming season.

“I think I’m in a great team,” Perez told RacingNews365.

Clearly, it has been amazing to be a member of the Red Bull team. We’ll have to wait and see.

“For now, I’m fully focused on the start of the year and ideally, I’ll be able to carry on for more years in this team.”

No timeline for decision

Perez won two of the first four rounds of the previous year’s competition, getting off to a great start.

They were his only two wins of the year, though, and he had to fight off his competitors to maintain his second-place finish in the Drivers’ Championship.

Perez denied having goals assigned to him by the team, as a decision over his future at Red Bull looms.

“The start of the season is going to be really busy,” he said.

“So just focusing on the first few races, that’s my main objective. I don’t think I’m setting any timelines or anything like that.

“For now, I’m just focusing on the first five races to get the most out of it, because it’s going be taking a lot of energy out of me, I just don’t want any distractions.”
