Following the 2024 season, the Spanish racer will leave Ferrari.
Before leaving Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season, Carlos Sainz has reflected on his favorite moments from the team.
Sainz’s fourth and last season driving for Ferrari is scheduled for 2024; the Spaniard is the largest casualty of Lewis Hamilton’s debut in 2025.
The seven-time World Champion will replace Sainz next year, after Hamilton signed to a multi-year deal to partner Charles Leclerc in early February. Although Sainz won’t have a place in 2025, Hamilton’s move to Maranello has already been hailed as maybe the greatest driver transfer in Formula One history.
Thirteen motorists, including Sainz, do not yet have contracts for the upcoming season, so the 29-year-old will not be short of options. Actually, there are just six race winners available in the driver market, including Sainz.
After two productive years with McLaren, where he worked with Lando Norris, Sainz became part of Ferrari in 2021. Many thought at first that he would be Leclerc’s number two, but in the 2021 rankings, the Spaniard defeated the Monegasque.
Along the way, the son of rally icon Carlos Sainz Sr. has won two races and shown remarkable consistency during his tenure at Ferrari. His first-ever victory in both red and Formula One was at the 2022 British Grand Prix; his most recent, and possibly most remarkable, triumph occurred in Singapore the previous year.
After turning pole position into a commanding triumph at the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix, Sainz became the first racer outside of Red Bull to win the winners’ trophy.
Although it was expected that he would remain with the Italians until his 2024 contract expired, the news about Hamilton caught everyone off guard. Sainz, though, has enjoyed his time with the Scuderia and is looking forward to making more memories this year.
“Great memories”
Speaking to the media, including RacingNews365, Sainz said, “Just thinking back, I have very, very, very good memories with this team.”
Given how racing for the historic side is unlike anything else, Sainz feels the experience overall has made him a more mature person in addition to making memories for life at Ferrari.
“It’s been a great experience for me, I think it has only made me grow as a driver to experience life in red, experience travelling the world as a Ferrari driver, going to all the circuits,” added Sainz.
“I’m going to do all kinds of scenarios, not being a Ferrari driver. It also made me mature, you know, also in front of the press, in front of the Tifosi, in front of everyone. It’s also a different working environment and a different working atmosphere than in any other team. But I enjoyed myself a lot.
“I think I’ve done a lot of good things in red, I’ve achieved my most important and most successful results in red. And with as I said, with one year ahead, hopefully there’s still more of those good feelings to come.”
