After earning 13 stage points at the Roval, Daniel Suarez found himself in a good position.
However, despite all his efforts, a lack of power steering put him in a perilous position in the final laps. He struggled through the strain and did everything he could to continue until a planned pit stop while being forced to tackle the problem as it got worse while racing under green flag conditions.
Although a last-minute warning gave him new hope for success, he was unsuccessful in surviving attrition. Having lost five laps, Suarez came in 36th. He was down by nine points at the checkered flag.
Along with him, Kyle Larson, the current NASCAR Cup Series champion, and Austin Cindric were disqualified.
Ross Chastain, who had to spend some time late in the race behind the wall, just escaped elimination, and Trackhouse Racing still has one car moving forward.
“Very challenging, “Suarez recalled his day. “The second-half of the race was probably the most difficult race I’ve driven in my life, but it is what it is. Unfortunately, me as a driver, that’s something that’s out of my control.”
For Suarez, it was a dismal way to finish a spectacular season. His career stagnated while he was racing for teams like Joe Gibbs Racing and Stewart-Haas Racing in the past, but Trackhouse has revived it.
With six top-five finishes and 12 top-ten finishes through the first 32 races, the former Xfinity Series winner won his first Cup race at Sonoma Raceway earlier this year. But having it all come to an end over something beyond of his control stings.
“The first-half of the race was good; and then we had a mechanical failure with the steering and after that, it was game over,” said Suarez. “It’s very disappointing to lose a race like that. Our No. 99 CommScope Chevy was good; it was fast. I felt like it was going to be an easy transition based on the speed that we had, but once we lost the steering, I was just trying to survive. My arms are destroyed right now. My hands are destroyed. It’s just unfortunate.”
In addition, Corey LaJoie and him got into a heated con after the race because of their numerous collisions.
