Although the three-time world champion has voiced his disapproval of some of the modifications made to Formula 1 in recent years, Max Verstappen supports these changes.
According to Max Verstappen, the modifications made to Formula 1’s sprint format for the next season make sense.
From the sprint format’s debut in 2021, Verstappen has been skeptical of it, and he carried that criticism into the previous season.
But F1 has decided to move sprint qualifying to Friday after the only practice session of the weekend in an effort to further streamline the schedule.
The sprint race will take place on Saturday before to the Grand Prix qualifying session; the main event will take place on Sunday as scheduled.
Verstappen told the media, including RacingNews365, “I think it’s a bit more logical, I would say with how the format is formed.”
“For me I don’t get more excited by winning a sprint or fighting for these kind of races. But at least a bit more logical I would say.”
Verstappen is also in favor of parc ferme reopening following the sprint race in order to address any setup problems before the Grand Prix.
“I think that’s a bit better,” he said. “Sometimes you get stuck, you know that your weakened is ruined you know you can’t really change anything. So for sure it will help a bit.”
Verstappen seems to be enthusiastic
Verstappen is coming into the race weekend having won three World Championships in a row, the latest of which was earned during the most dominant season in Formula One history.
With 19, the Dutchman broke the previous record for most victories in a single season.
Even after seeing sustained success, Verstappen says his passion for Formula One doesn’t change.
“[It’s] the same as last year to be honest, you just go with the flow,” he said. “Of course it [the calendar] is a bit longer.
“But to be honest with you, once you’re in the middle of the season you’re anyway in this F1 mode, so you can never fully switch off. Then you just keep going.”
