Max Verstappen is hoping that the stewards will treat themselves to a dinner with the fine he’ll have to pay for his parc ferme faux pas.
Max Verstappen joked that the stewards should treat themselves to supper and wine on him because he was fined €50,000 for touching Lewis Hamilton’s rear wing in parc ferme.
After both drivers were summoned before the stewards for different incidents, all eyes were on Verstappen and Hamilton heading into Saturday at Interlagos.
While the Mercedes driver was disqualified from Friday’s qualifying due to a violation of his car’s Drag Reduction System (DRS), Verstappen was only fined for his parc ferme mistake.
Although Verstappen admits the fine is no small figure, he did find the situation somewhat amusing.
“It’s quite a big fine, so I hope they have a nice dinner and a lot of wine, some good expensive wine!” Verstappen said and accredited members of the media.
“That would be nice, and they can invite me for dinner as well. I’ll pay for that dinner, too!”
Fewer FIFA points for Verstappen
Helmut Marko, a Red Bull advisor, has already stated that the team will not assist Verstappen in covering the costs of his fine.
Verstappen said the figure falls on his shoulders when asked by Valtteri Bottas at Saturday’s post-Sprint news conference, which might have ramifications for his online gaming activities.
“I do,” Verstappen responded to Bottas’ question. “So that means less FIFA points for me on my laptop!”
