After the finale of the Australian Grand Prix, spectators started entering the track in somewhat hazardous conditions.

A big crowd of fans managed to enter the racetrack while the event was still in progress, prompting the stewards to express “severe concerns” about their safety at the completion of the Australian Grand Prix.

Video from the race’s ending showed fans gaining access to the racetrack during the ‘cool down’ lap, while a group of spectators dangerously invaded the track at Turns 1 and 2 while recovery vehicles and Nico Hulkenberg’s Haas came to a halt due to a power unit problem.

When Hulkenberg got out of his car, his engineer urged him to conduct a “ERS jump” since the red ERS high voltage light was on and anyone touching it without electrical gloves was at threat.

The FIA has safety regulations for motorsport fans since they frequently help in vehicle recovery on stages. When the World Rally Championship switched to hybrid systems the year before, this was implemented.

To make fans realize the safety procedures they must take because of the high-voltage electrical current they can generate, e-safety posters with the phrase “Look for the Green Light” are posted everywhere around stages.

The recovery cars for both Logan Sargeant and Nyck de Vries’ cars crossed the track just in time to avoid fans. At the 2013 Canadian Grand Prix, a marshal suffered fatal injuries after being run over by a recovery vehicle.

The FIA stewards have directed the Australian Grand Prix Corporation to look into the matter and write a report; the problem will also be forwarded to the World Motorsport Council for further investigations.
