Toto Wolff has hinted at a crucial element that he believes would enable Mercedes to move back to the head of the Formula 1 grid.
According to Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff, the team’s “key strength” can be seen by the senior personnel extensions.
Wolff stated just recently that he had reached an agreement to sign a new multi-year contract to stay on at Mercedes.
James Allison, the team’s technical director, was dedicated to the squad for the long run, and this was confirmed a few days later.
When Mercedes won the Formula 1 title without losing from 2014 to 2020, it was largely due to the contributions of both Allison and Wolff.
Regarding the extensions, Wolff stated, “It’s always good when the senior management commits, especially someone like James Allison [who] is fantastic and it gives trust and stability in the team.”
“I think it’s something that shows the core strength of the team is being kept together.”
Plans for the preseason
Lewis Hamilton abruptly decided to leave the club at the end of the season, while Wolff and Allison extended their contracts.
In order to embark on a new challenge, the seven-time World Champion will move to Ferrari in 2025.
The 39-year-old wants to finish his career on a positive note and still has the remainder of the Mercedes season to go.
The Mercedes W15 will see Hamilton’s first official race the following week during preseason testing in Bahrain.
“We’re going to run through our programme at pre-season testing, not only look at the stopwatch, find out whether some of the questions from last year are more understood and finally see how it puts us in the relative competition towards the end of the test,” Wolff added.
“But the truth is, only the first qualifying is going to show that.”
