In a spin-filled Kansas Cup practise, the Busch brothers were the quickest

Kurt Busch 1

Kurt and Kyle Busch were the fastest in Saturday’s NASCAR Cup Series practise at Kansas, which was marred by spins as crews battled tyre troubles.

Kurt Busch 1

Kurt Busch had the best performance with average pace, leading Group B with an average pace of 175.564 mph).

Kyle Busch finished 2nd overall after setting the fastest lap in Group A with a speed of 175.415 mph.

Tyler Reddick placed third (175.068 mph), Ross Chastain was fourth, and Christopher Bell was fifth.

Bell had the best average track pace among racers who completed at least ten consecutive laps (173.630 mph). Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson finished second and third in that standing, respectively.

On a scorching day, teams tried to get as much pace out of their cars in practise, but they’re gearing up for a race on Sunday with much cooler temps.

Group B

Kurt Busch was first to take to the racetrack in the second session, just like his brother in Group A, and set the best overall lap pace (175.564 mph).

Chastain finished second (175.040 mph), and Bell finished third (175.040 mph) (175.023 mph). Chase Briscoe and Austin Cindric completed out the top 5.

Ricky Stenhouse skidded in Turn 3 and struck the barrier less than 5 minutes into the second practise, causing considerable harm to his No. 47 Chevrolet.

Joey Logano spun in Turn 3 with less than five minutes left in the practice after his left rear tyre went flat, skating up the track and into the barrier. Logano’s No. 22 Ford suffered significant rear-end damage.

“I drove off into the corner and I could feel (the tire) shaking and I knew it was bad,” Logano said. “We’ll have to come from the rear (of the field) but we’ll be alright. We’ll fight through it. I think we were pretty decent with lap times before that.”

Group A

In Group A, Kyle Busch was one of the first to on the racetrack, setting the best aggregate pace of the session (175.415 mph).

Reddick (175.068 mph) and Austin Dillon (174.983 mph), both from Richard Childress Racing, finished second and third, respectively. Top-five finishers were Denny Hamlin and Chris Buescher.

Buescher spun in Turn 1 and smacked the wall just four minutes into the session, causing considerable damage to his No. 17 Ford’s left side.

Cody Ware spun at Turn 2 after around 15 minutes, but did not show up to strike the barrier and was capable of driving back to pit road.

Ryan Blaney had a left-rear tyre go down and spun off Turn 4 just before the practise ended. Hamlin stalled on the frontstretch with flat left-rear a moment later.
