After the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, Petty GMS and Ty Dillon will no longer be working together.
The break was announced on Friday by the racer and the squad.
Erik Jones’ teammate, 30-year-old Dillon, drives the No. 42 Chevrolet and finally entered the organisation.
Dillon’s first year competing at the Cup level hasn’t been easy; he’s presently ranked 27th in the rankings and hasn’t finished better than tenth (Bristol Dirt).
The group issued the following statement: “Petty GMS and Ty Dillon have mutually agreed to part ways following the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season. We are appreciative of what Ty has done this year to help grow Petty GMS. As we continue the season, we remain focused on strong runs and getting the No. 42 Chevy Camaro to victory lane. We wish Ty all the best in the future.”
In a statement he issued, Dillon echoed the team’s sentiments: “I am grateful for the opportunity to drive the No. 42 for Petty GMS this year. However, at the conclusion of the 2022 Cup Series season, we have mutually agreed to go our separate ways. I’m looking forward to what is next in the future.”
The youngest Dillon brother made his Cup start in 2014 and made most of his 185 races with the squad that is no longer in existence, Germain Racing. In that period, he has just two top-five finishes and seven top-ten finishes.
Prior to it, he won three Truck Series races with Richard Childress Racing and once in the Xfinity Series.
As of the now, it is unknown where Ty will work in 2023 or who will take his place at Petty GMS.
