It has been reported that Red Bull CEO Dietrich Mateschitz passed away at the age of 78.

On the eve of the US GP, Mateschitz, one of the most significant figures in modern Formula 1 history, passed away.

Before the start of qualifying at the Circuit of the Americas, Mateschitz’s Red Bull Racing members of the team were told of his death.

The energy drink company was co-founded in 1987 by Austrian businessman Mateschitz, and the brand later spread into the sports industry.

Red Bull, a fervent racing supporter, made its Formula 1 debut in the 1990s and began a close relationship with the Sauber team in 1995.

By starting the Red Bull F1 squad and replacing the Jaguar F1 entry, which had been participating since 2005, Mateschitz showed a greater dedication to the motorsport.

A year later, replacing the Minardi squad, the ‘junior’ Red Bull team Toro Rosso, now named AlphaTauri, was created.

With 91 race triumphs between the senior and junior teams, the Red Bull team has won 6 drivers’ championships, four constructors’ championships, and four world championships while under Mateschitz’s ownership.
