As Formula 1 prepares to make a comeback after a three-year hiatus, Pierre Gasly reveals that he “loves” the “extreme” nature of the Singapore Grand Prix.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the race at the Marina Bay Street circuit hasn’t been organised since 2019, but Singapore will join nations like Canada and Japan in bringing the event back to the calendar in ’22.

Due to the 3.1-mile length of the course and the 61 laps that are typically planned, Singapore is one of the races that frequently exceeds the two-hour time limit. The circuit is also well-known for being bumpy and physically demanding, and the humidity makes it one of the most difficult races for drivers to compete in all season.

However, Gasly, who placed seventh in 2019 while driving for Toro Rosso, admits it would be a challenge he relishes.

I’ll try to rest, get some good sleep and get physically back in shape for for that race because we know it’s very extreme conditions,” Gasly explained.

“But it’s a track I love. Honestly, I love that place. I missed it over the last few years and can’t wait to get back there.

“If I look at the numbers – maybe it’s better not to look at the numbers! – I just go there with an open mind and we’ll try our best.

“[We’ll] prepare ourselves in the best way and hopefully we can be fighting again for the top [positions.]

In 2022, AlphaTauri has had difficulty because they have not been as consistent as other squads, with Gasly only managing to reach the top five once, in Azerbaijan.

Additionally, the AT03 car is better adapted to tracks with less downforce, as demonstrated by the French driver’s victories in Belgium and Italy.

He finished 12th and 11th, respectively, in the Netherlands and Hungary, two races that require more downforce.
