Jake Dixon, who made the best lap on day one of the official Portimao Moto2 test, maintains his strong form on day two, taking P4.
Jake Dixon resumed his strong form on day two of official Moto2 testing in Portimao, taking P4 after leading the first day.
Dixon was among four riders to go faster than 2022 MotoGP rookie Raul Fernandez’ official Portimao lap record from last season. Dixon, who made his MotoGP debut for Petronas Yamaha in 2021 – contested his home round at Silverstone and Aragon as he replaced an injured Franco Morbidelli – was one of four riders to go faster than Fernandez’ official Portimao lap record from last season.
The former BSB rider produced a best lap time of 1:42.040s, which was +0.148s slower than Aron Canet, the rider he will replace at GASGAS Aspar in 2022.
Dixon decided not to make any modifications to the bike during the day, instead analysing his performance on old and new tyres during the allotted track time.
“Day two done. It has been a positive day, just riding: I haven’t changed anything. I’m just trying to get the flow, feeling good on the bike and around the track,” added Dixon.
“I have been running on old tyres, I was fast in old and new and I’m looking forward to day 3, to see what we can do, continuing in this way, doing a lot of laps on the last day before Qatar.”
Despite being eight tenths behind Dixon, Dixon’s teammate Albert Arenas produced a good performance.
Although he crashed near the end of S6, the former Moto3 world title believes his consistency has much advanced over the two days.
Arenas said: “We finished today satisfied with how consistent we are. There is still work to be done, but at the end of the day I feel like we have taken another step forward.
“I had a small crash when I was improving at the end, but I keep the positive: I always ride close to my best time.
“We want to confirm this consistency tomorrow and to corroborate some things, but the path we are taking gives me the confidence to keep going like this.”
