Even though he has won the championship twice in a row, Max Verstappen doesn’t plan to continue racing in Formula One into his forties.

Verstappen F1 retirement

Max Verstappen, the recently crowned twice World Champion, has implied that he may not pursue a career in Formula One for as long as some of his competitors.

The champion of the 2021 and 2022 championships, who is just 25 years old, has already participated in 159 Grands Prix since making his F1 start in 2015 at the age of 17; this is a milestone that is unlikely to be surpassed given that the FIA afterwards imposed a minimum age limit of 18.

Verstappen hinted that he would want to be doing something else with his life at such an older years, even if competitors like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, who are 37 and 41 years old, respectively, aren’t showing any signs of slowing down.

Verstappen – “I want to do other stuff”

“I don’t see myself driving until I’m 40 because I want to also do other stuff,” Verstappen told F1.

“I’m having a lot of fun with what I’m doing right now and I’m still in F1 for a couple more years. I’m signed [with Red Bull] until 2028.

“After that, it also depends how everything is going but I will probably try to do a few different kinds of racing because it’s important also to try different things.

“I really enjoy being part of this team for a long time and hopefully for a long time to come.”

Verstappen would have probably driven more than 300 Grands Prix if he decides to quit after his latest Red Bull contract expires in 2028, a feat only six other racers in F1 history have accomplished.

If Verstappen maintains his undefeated streak until 2028 after capturing the World Championship in 2021 and 2022, he will surpass Hamilton and Michael Schumacher’s existing record of 7 championship victories.
