2021’s Top 10 MotoGP Riders

ok

Our top ten rider list for the 2021 MotoGP season begins with Enea Bastianini, a rookie.

MotoGP Riders
  • Team: Avintia Esponsorama (satellite)
  • Bike: GP19
  • Wins: 0
  • Podiums: 2
  • Best Qualifying: 9th
  • Fastest Lap: 1
  • DNFs: 3
  • Championship position: 11th

Enea Bastianini joined the Avintia squad as the reigning Moto2 champion, learning the ropes on 2019-spec Ducatis alongside fellow rookie Luca Marini.

The previous year, Johann Zarco rode the same bike to the team’s first pole and podium. Bastianini was able to stand on the podium twice on his way to 11th position in the world championship despite the rising age difference to the 2021 bikes (two places higher than Zarco the previous year).

That’s despite his primary Achilles’ heel this season, failing to qualify higher than ninth. Bastianini’s Misano rostrums were earned after charging from 12th and 16th positions on the grid, respectively.

Despite losing to race winner Jorge Martin on the latest GP21, Bastianini scored more than twice as many points as teammate Marini, who was the only rider on equal machinery.

Overall, we believe Bastianini’s achievements merited a spot in the top ten, and he is thus the first rider on our rider countdown for the 2021 season. It’ll be intriguing to watch what the young Italian can do next year at Gresini on GP21 machinery…
