The reserve driver for each Formula One team ahead of the 2022 season

The 2022 Formula One season is almost around the corner, and more than 20 drivers are getting fit in preparation for the season opener in Bahrain.

Despite the fact that they are rarely needed, Formula 1 teams frequently keep a test and reserve driver locked away for security, ready to be put in the car if needed.

F1 has had some remarkable substitute drivers in recent times, with some even going close to victory races and securing podiums during their one-off stays in the car.

Despite simply being a stand-in driver, Nico Hulkenberg qualified his Racing Point in the top three at Silverstone in 2020.

Other drivers to keep an eye on in 2022

Despite the fact that they are not official test and reserve drivers, a number of rising stars are expected to participate in F1 practise sessions during the 2022 season, according to a new FIA rule.

Each team must set aside two FP1 sessions for new drivers who have participated in fewer than three Formula One races and are eligible for an FIA Super Licence.

Liam Lawson, Juri Vips, Jehan Daruvala, and Theo Pourchaire might all be on the timesheets this season as a result of this.

In the meantime, McLaren has yet to reveal their test and backup drivers for 2022, although they are likely to tap into Mercedes’ talent pool, like they did in 2021. That pool includes De Vries and Vandoorne.
