Christopher Bell kept his best lap for the final and secured the pole for the NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday.
Bell, who was quickest in Group B qualifying in Round 1, was the last of ten cars to compete in Round 2 and took the lead with an average pace of 179.575 mph – the best lap of the day.
It’s Bell’s 3rd pole in as many seasons. His best result following beginning on pole has indeed been 10th at Las Vegas, a racetrack that is comparable to Kansas.
“These guys are just doing a really good job on this No. 20 car – they have been all year long,” Bell said. “I’m really proud of the effort.
“We have an excellent Camry here this weekend so hopefully we can keep it up tomorrow.”
Bell’s highest result at Kansas was sixth last autumn in 4 career races.
Tyler Reddick finished second (178.855 mph) while Kyle Larson finished third (178.772 mph). Kurt Busch and Austin Cindric completed out the top five.
Kyle Busch, Aric Almirola, Alex Bowman, Martin Truex Jr., and Ryan Blaney round out the top-10 starts for Sunday’s race.
Round 1 / Group B
Bell was the last driver in the session to try to qualify and finish first with a pace of 179.527 mph.
Bowman finished second (177.983 mph) and Kurt Busch finished third (177.983 mph) (177.889 mph). Almirola and Cindric completed the top five, advancing to the last round as well.

Kyle Busch ranked 3rd and Truex was 2nd (177.264 mph) (177.072 mph). Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney completed the top 5 and progressed to Round 2 of the tournament.
