Aston Martin announced that Alonso will join the squad next year

Fernando Alonso has made it known that he will sign a multi-year deal to race for the Aston Martin squad in 2023.

Fernando Alonso will start racing for Aston Martin in 2023, the company has revealed.

The Spaniard enters the British team on a multi-year contract after making his F1 comeback with Alpine in 2021 after a two-year absence.

It follows the recently announced retirement of Sebastian Vettel from Formula 1 at the conclusion of the 2022 season.

Fernando’s amazing expertise, amazing pace, and racecraft will be a huge asset to the squad, according to a statement issued by Aston Martin.

“The recruitment of a special talent such as Fernando is a clear statement of intent from an organisation that has committed to developing a winning Formula 1 team.”

Stroll praises Alonso in his speech

Lawrence Stroll, the executive chairman of Aston Martin, is overjoyed that Alonso will join the team as they grow.

“I have known and admired Fernando for many years and it has always been clear that he is a committed winner like me,” Stroll said.

“I have set out to bring together the best people and develop the right resources and organisation to succeed in this highly competitive sport, and those plans are now taking shape at Silverstone.

“It seemed natural therefore to invite Fernando to be part of the development of a winning team, and we very quickly established in our recent conversations that we have the same ambitions and values, and it was logical and easy to confirm our desire to work together.”
