Aston Martin expressed their expectations for Alonso to contribute to the team

Aston Martin indicated that they hope Alonso to contribute to the squad.

When Fernando Alonso, a two-time Formula 1 World Champion, enters the team in 2023, Mike Krack thinks he will bring “killer instinct” to Aston Martin.

Sebastian Vettel is leaving, and Alonso shocked the racer market by revealing he was departing Alpine to sign a “multi-year” contract with Aston Martin.

The 41-year-old will work alongside Lance Stroll at the Silverstone-based team, becoming his fifth different constructor in his lengthy career.

And Krack thinks the squad will receive an experienced racer, one who will be the most excellent driver in F1 ever by the time he begins the 2023 season.

“[Fernando] just has that killer instinct, no matter what, you know that he will always give you everything: always push 100 per cent, always extract the maximum from the car and the team,” observed Krack.

“His racecraft is exceptional – a formidable combination of confidence, instinct and intelligence.

“He will demand a lot from us, but that’s to be expected from a multiple World Champion.

“Fernando will be a driving force as we climb together and, like everyone in the team, I cannot wait to work with him.”

Stroll and four-time winner Vettel, who had just left Ferrari, were paired together by Aston Martin when the works team made their comeback to Formula One in 2021.

The squad has recruited Alonso to lead its effort for race victories and World Championship glory as the German will be hanging up his helmet at the completion of the current season.

Krack thinks that having a driver of Alonso’s calibre join the squad is evidence of the continued efforts being made by the Silverstone-based team to improve their chances of winning.

“Signing Fernando is a clear statement of our intent at Aston Martin F1. We are not on the grid to make up the numbers. We are here to win,” said the German.

“We are on a journey to the front of the grid and Fernando’s decision to join us on that journey – to have a driver of his calibre believe in the Aston Martin F1 project – is a great compliment to our team and the work we are doing.

“The prospect of having Fernando and Lance in the car next year is a hugely exciting one.”
