F1 standings: Leclerc leaps ahead while his closest competitor emerges as a surprise

After his second victory in three races, Charles Leclerc has a pleasant championship lead over Max Verstappen, who has lost a lot of ground.
After winning the Australian Grand Prix for the second time, Charles Leclerc is extending his lead in the 2022 Formula One World Championship.
After winning in Bahrain and coming second in Saudi Arabia, Ferrari racer Leclerc was already leading Sunday’s race at Albert Park until Red Bull adversary Max Verstappen withdrew late (his second in three races).
As a consequence, Leclerc currently leads the championship by 34 points, but his closest competitor is now Merc’ George Russell, who finished third in a surprise finish.
Verstappen has plummeted to 6th place, 46 points behind Leclerc, while Red Bull conducts post-race examinations in order to resolve their troubles in time for Formula One’s comeback to Europe.
As things currently stand, Verstappen is trailed by Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez, and Lewis Hamilton.
Despite Sainz’s withdrawal, Ferrari currently leads the Constructors’ rankings, 39 points ahead of Mercedes and 10 points ahead of Red Bull.
