In an attempt to improve the chances of the McLaren squad, Lando Norris has spoken about his efforts to assist teammate Daniel Ricciardo.
Lando Norris rejects any suggestions that he is using Daniel Ricciardo as a pawn in a game and says that , he is actually doing the exact opposite by supporting the Australian.
Ricciardo only has 19 points after what has been a difficult 2022 season thus far for the 33-year-old, while Norris is now sitting in seventh place with 76 points in the World Championship rankings.
This comes after his troubles at McLaren in 2021, when Norris largely surpassed him.
Since then, Norris has made comments about his attempts to assist Ricciardo in adapting to the MCL36, dispelling any notion that he was playing any mind tricks.
Norris dismisses the idea of tricking Ricciardo
Norris seems astonished when questioned about the prospect of playing mind games with Ricciardo.
“Mind games? In what way? What mind games can I play?” Norris laughed when speaking to media, including RacingNews365.com.
He continued by making it clear that this is not the case and that he is still working to help Ricciardo.
“No, it’s the opposite,” Norris said.
“I’m trying to help him as much as I can. It’s for the benefit of us as a team, to try and beat Alpine at the end of the day.”
Norris giving Ricciardo some support
Norris adds that he is likely sharing more information with Ricciardo than he would typically do with a teammate in order to help him.
“He sees everything that I see in terms of data and everything,” the Briton explained.
“I’m offering more help than what I normally would, let’s say. If we were fighting for a World Championship, I’m saying more things than maybe what I would do!
“That’s what we need for the team, it’s what I want for the team at the minute.
“So yeah, [it’s] the opposite of mind games, whatever that is – mind soothing!”
