Despite being called to meet the officials after testing, Charles Leclerc will start from pole for the second time this season at the Australian Grand Prix.

The Monegasque was examined for reportedly driving too slowly on an inlap, but no further charges were brought, ensuring he will start from the front row for Sunday’s race.

In second, Max Verstappen follows him at the front of the pack. Sergio Perez, the Red Bull driver’s teammate, was also facing a possible punishment for apparently failing to respect single yellow flags during qualifying.

The stewards, like Leclerc, judged that Perez “behaved appropriately to the circumstance” and did not punish him. On the grid, he’ll pick P3.

However, other motorists have been fined. After being found at fault for a qualifying accident with Nicholas Latifi, Lance Stroll was penalised three places on the grid.

Meanwhile, Alex Albon was eliminated from the race because his Williams vehicle failed to deliver the requisite one-litre fuel sample for scrutineering inspections by the FIA.

The following starting grid is preliminary until the FIA, Formula One’s governing body, confirms it.
