Wehrlein wins the first Formula E race in Mexico
Pascal Wehrlein became victorious in the first Formula E race of 2024, defeating Sebastian Buemi and Nick Cassidy in a lights-to-flag finish.
Formula E is back! The opening E-Prix of the 2024 season was held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico.
Sebastien Buemi lost pole to Pascal Wehrlein, the quickest driver in qualifying, as the Porsche racer outran the Envision driver by 0.251 seconds.
Wehrlein was the only competitor to give up position during the race; he only did so when he entered Attack Mode and during a brief yellow flag interval.
For a short while, the German was being looked into for a technical infraction, but he was eventually granted his win back.
Buemi finished second, trailing the Porsche home ahead of Nick Cassidy, making his Jaguar team debut.
A day of disappointment for some
Numerous yellow flags were raised at the beginning of the race owing to various incidents, including a collision involving Nico Muller and Antonio Felix Da Costa.

Due to a technological issue at the beginning, Robin Frijns dropped from seventh place to position fifteen. He was able to recover a few positions, but on lap nine, as he was leaving the Foro Sol, he crashed, earning a so-called full course yellow.
Nyck de Vries had a bad weekend as well. The Dutchman was returning to the electric competition following his elimination from Formula 1’s AlphaTauri.

De Vries qualified at P22 while racing for Mahindra, however he was unable to gain any points and began on the Blackfoot. He placed fifteenth overall.
