Charles Leclerc would be happy to see more competitors participate in the race in 2023 after his title challenge with Max Verstappen in 2022 lost momentum.
Charles Leclerc is prepared for the possibility of competing against Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton for the World Championship.
After winning two of the first three races, the Monegasque appeared to have a good chance of winning the championship in 2022.
Ferrari struggled with strategy mistakes, driver errors, and reliability issues throughout the season, which cost them position to Red Bull as the season went on.
Despite this, Leclerc admits that being able to compete for victories throughout the year might be a benefit for what he needs to concentrate on moving forward.
Leclerc told the media, including RacingNews365.com, that competing for victories “changes [things] just with the mindset and all of these type of things.”
“At the end, I just need to do exactly the same job as I was doing last year, which was to try and optimise the job that I have to do in the car, [to] try and improve as a team and all of this stuff.
“The fact that it [has been] a new car [in 2022 with the regulation changes] doesn’t change much either.”
Leclerc would enjoy a three-way title fight
Mercedes, like Ferrari, was unable to surpass Red Bull’s speed throughout the 2022 season, but it hopes to become a more formidable opponent in 2023.
Leclerc responded, “I do. I would love to see Lewis and Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari just on a par to fight for the championship.,” when asked if he felt ready to compete against Verstappen and Hamilton for the championship.
“That would be amazing and, yes, I do feel ready.”
After defeating his closest challenger Sergio Perez by three points, Leclerc completed the 2022 World Championship season in second place.
